From quarry to the finest fillers

In mining and agrochemicals, calcium carbonate can be processed with great efficiency using Cimma’s advanced industrial pulverizing and micronization processes. From the quarry to the finest fillers, our equipment-impact mills, hammer mill, micronizer with classifier, in-line microseparator and dynamic selector coupled to the mill-guarantee excellent results at every stage of the process.

Importance of Calcium Carbonate

Calcium carbonate is used in many areas: construction, paint, chemicals, food, and agriculture. It can be a filler, a neutralizing agent or a source of calcium, depending on particle size. For food or paint applications, ultrafine particles are often required. Cimma makes optimized solutions to reduce particle size down to micronization.

The challenges of calcium carbonate milling

Crushing, grinding, pulverizing and grading processes must be optimized to maintain the chemical and physical characteristics of the ore. The main difficulties are:

  • Wide range of particle sizes required
  • Purity control and compliance with specifications
  • Optimization of energy efficiency
  • Minimize wear and tear on mechanical parts
  • Avoiding contamination in sensitive areas

Cimma solutions

Our solutions are customized and versatile, perfect for dealing with different types of calcium carbonate:

  • Impact mill with or without screen: used to crush large lumps directly in the quarry. Allows initial size reduction for subsequent particle size reduction steps.
  • Hammer mill with screen: used for particle size reduction in sands of a few mm, the particle size distribution is adjustable by appropriately configuring the internal parts of the mill and adjusting the speed of the rotors.
  • Aspirated pulverizers with integrated classifier: are used for fine or very fine grinding of many materials of low to moderate hardness and abrasiveness, used to obtain powders with narrow and precise particle size distribution in the range 10÷200 microns of particles to the required levels.
  • The dynamic microselector, thanks to a special tundish and baffle ring geometry and precise adjustment, allows finenesses up to 99% even below 20 microns with adjustable mean diameter d50 in the range 2 – 10 microns with concentrated particle size distribution in a narrow range. It enables accurate particle size control, seeking maximum fineness and particle size cut.

These solutions can also be used in other areas because of their precision, robustness and flexibility.

How it works in detail

The process begins with the introduction of the material inside the main chamber of the machinery. Here, the impact and hammer mill comes into action and crushes the material, significantly reducing its initial size, which exits through the screen at a controlled particle size. The product is destined for subsequent stages of pulverization or screening for division into several different particle sizes.

Then, in the industrial pulverization stage and, if required, micronization, the powder will achieve a controlled and precise particle size distribution thanks to the microclassifier with dynamic selector inside the mill or in-line.

This type of technology is ideal for applications that require a high level of precision and quality.
